Grey Court Poets Quick Facts
About Us: The Grey
Court Poets is a grassroots Methuen-based poetry writers group that seeks to enhance Methuen’s growing cultural community
by providing an outlet for creative people living in and around the Methuen area. The mission of the Grey Court Poets is to
provide a forum where people can learn about poetry, have their writing constructively critiqued, work on poetry reading skills,
and share and provide resources such as websites, books, magazines and other poetry-related material. The Grey Court Poets
also strive to be a major part of Methuen’s cultural community by sponsoring and taking part in public readings, workshops
and literary festivals in and around the Methuen area.
Meetings: Regular meetings are held on the first Wednesday
of every month at 7 p.m. in the Trustees Conference Room at the Nevins Memorial Library 305 Broadway, Methuen, MA. http://www.nevinslibrary.org/
On occasion, readings and events will be held at other Methuen venues such as Borders Books, Grey Court Park and the Methuen
Music Hall.
What To Bring: If you have a favorite book, website, magazine or writing resource, you are encouraged to
bring it to the meeting. The first portion of each meeting is devoted to resource sharing and news from the world of poetry
& writing. The second portion of each meeting is devoted to reading original work and gaining constructive feedback on poems
that are presented. Please bring at least ten copies of the piece you’d like to share. You can collect the copies when you
are finished. The level of feedback you receive is up to you. If you don’t have a resource or poem to share, please still
attend. Just bring a willing ear and an open mind.
Membership: Membership is open to poets of all levels and styles.
Poetry fans that do not write, but are eager to learn about poetry and would like to be kept informed of literary happenings
are invited to join as well. You need not be a Methuen resident to join the Grey Court Poets.
Patron Poet: Our patron
poet and guiding spirit is former Methuen resident and Methuen school teacher Robert Frost who famously said: “I had decided
that I was up to no good at Dartmouth, so I just went home to Methuen.”
